The cost of always coping

Coping is a skill. Living permanently in coping mode is something else, and it has a bill.

Coping is what gets you through a hard week. It is meant to be temporary — a way of holding things together until conditions change.

The problem is how well it works. When you cope competently for long enough, nobody around you notices anything is heavy, including you.

Signs it has become a permanent setting: rest that does not restore, irritation out of proportion to the trigger, and a low background sense that you are behind on your own life.

The way out is not a dramatic overhaul. It is one honest audit: what in this week is genuinely required, and what am I carrying out of habit? Then remove one thing, and notice how much resistance that creates. That resistance is worth understanding.
